Cheong Safely in JB

As reported recently of robbery/kidnap in JB on Singapore cars.

http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/st...time_hero.html

Please be warned that had already happened before. My friend's Honda Accord was also robbed at knife point 2 years ago!

Some reminders:
1) Stay alert!
2) always lock your car doors, don't open the door to strangers
3) avoid going at night if alone
4) avoid secluded area, as it gives robbers opportunity to target u!
5) don't wear too nice or expensive watches or jewellery
6) avoid driving too flashy cars, else kena target again!
7) don't park at quiet or dark areas. If need to pay for carpark, i m sure a little $ won't hurt your pocket!
8) remember to lock your car if leave unattended. Even if pumping petrol!
9) Lock your toilet door if using petrol kiosk toilet or anywhere public
10) if kena trailed by stranger car, drive to the nearest toll station or police station. Do not stop your car!

Cheong with care and hopefully all can enjoy JB! :)

Comparing to all many other south east asian countries, JB is in fact safer. Then again, comparing places only treat the symptoms. The actual cause is this:

It's NOT the place that's dangerous...
It's your personal habits that put you at risk!

Malaysians still insecure despite drop in crime statistics

Malaysians still insecure despite drop in crime statistics

KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 — The authorities have insisted that the country’s crime rate is on the decline but with the recent spate of kidnap attempts and robberies, many Malaysians are now beginning to feel the streets are not as safe as the statistics claim.

Reports of the kidnapping of 12-year-old Dutch schoolboy Nayati Moodliar, followed by the harrowing tale of a young woman who escaped two kidnappers in a shopping mall, another attempted rape and kidnap at Ampang’s Tesco last week and the recent assault on Bersih activist Wong Chin Huat have raised alarms over the current state of public security.

Following the reports, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak recently admitted that the government needed to do more to combat crime.

It is not easy "to blend into the locals" .... I can spot a S'porean a mile away from their body language, the way they talk, walk and behave, etc

Try and"blend into the locals" when you are in China ... the Chinese people there will easily spot that you are not from PRC

Another Singaporean robbed and hurt in JB

Another Singaporean robbed and hurt in JB

AsiaOne
Monday, Jul 09, 2012

Another Singaporean became the victim of a robbery in Johor Baru on Thursday night.

The latest incident took place at 10.45pm in Permas Jaya in JB.

The victim, part-time tutor David Lim, 24, told Shin Min Daily News that he had posted an advertisement online to sell his girlfriend's laptop.

An interested buyer had responded to his post and asked to meet him in Johor Bahru.

Three men met Mr Lim and his girlfriend in Johor Bahru, and they examined the laptop.

Mr Lim said: "After talking with the three men for a while, they claimed that they didn't have enough money and wanted us to accompany them to the ATM to withdraw cash."

After Mr Lim agreed and returned to his car, he realised that two of the men had followed them and sat in the back seat. Another man drove the other car.

Along the journey, one of the men suddenly pulled out a knife and placed it against Mr Lim's neck and ordered him to drive to Permas Jaya.

Mr Lim added: "When we were about to arrive there, I had a feeling that they wouldn't let us go so easily.

"So when I was driving past some private houses, I deliberately crashed into the gatepost of one of the houses.

"Then I jumped into the back seat and tussled with them."

Several residents in the area initially tried to help Mr Lim, but after the men told them they were the ones being robbed, the residents freed them.

The three men fled the scene.

Mr Lim sustained a 4cm-long knife wound and injuries to his hands and legs.

His girlfriend needed three stitches on her face and mouth.

Her routine trip to an open-air market in Johor Baru ended with a smashed car window and a stolen handbag.

But the 45-year-old Singaporean nurse, who wanted to be known only as Madam Hanny, had a camera installed in her car, and it managed to capture the culprits’ faces.

The footage of the incident that happened on June 30 has since been handed over to the police in Malaysia.

Read the full report in The New Paper on Monday (July 9).

Enjoy high life for low price in Johor Bahru

Report from The New Paper dated 9 July 2012 :-

Enjoy high life for low price in Johor Bahru

Despite news of Singaporeans being victims of crime in Johor, more are snapping up houses for less than half of what they would cost here.
About 5,000 Singaporeans call Johor home now.

Even the long daily commute to work or school is not a deterrent.
