KUALA LUMPUR - MALAYSIA'S Muslim men are suffering sleepless nights and cannot pray properly because their thoughts are distracted by a growing number of women who wear sexy clothes in public, a prominent opposition cleric said.

Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat, the spiritual leader of Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS), said he wanted to speak about the 'emotional abuse' that men face because it is seldom discussed, the fundamentalist Islamic party reported on its website yesterday.

'We always (hear about) the abuse of children and wives in households, which is easily perceived by the eye, but the emotional abuse of men cannot be seen,' Datuk Nik Aziz said. 'Our prayers become unfocused and our sleep is often disturbed.'

He has made controversial comments about women in the past, including that women should stop wearing lipstick and perfume to lower the risk of being raped.

Women's groups have slammed his statements. They say comments like his encourage rapes because they put the blame on women.

Datuk Nik Aziz is also the Chief Minister of Kelantan, the sole Malaysian state that is not ruled by the Barisan Nasional governing coalition.

In the northern state, the Islamic party has fined Muslim women for not wearing headscarves in workplaces and implemented separate check-out lines for men and women in supermarkets.

I would agree about the distraction part though. Sometimes i also get distracted but not to the extent of 'not sleeping'. It may be too much sometimes to tell girls to cover up completely where we can practically walk to the equator (hot). Anyway, like anything someone says... its JUST an OPINION and would you think that anybody would enforce such rule? I don't think so, maybe in his own household. Its just like this forum, you can say anything you want and if ppl like, they up, ppl don't like they zap. LOL. The point is that you have to wear appropriately that's all... try to get a female friend to wear short revealing dresses to a funeral and see what will happen.

Wah leow, he ownself cannot tahan lah. This shows how easily distracted he can be...heart got impure thots. No one is putting a gun to his head to bio the cha boh you know?

Just like employees have the choice of working from home but are distracted - dun work, do F off, watch TV, view porno sites, go wash car, etc...Poor example but you get the drift.

What's new from a truly asia minister. Sometime they really amuse me with the crap that comes out of their mouth. But then again, it is a distraction which i welcome anytime anyday.

By saying that... is he also implying that if a woman got raped, its not the man's fault because he is suffering too much "emotional abuse" and has to vent his frustration at the woman?

A person who see a sexy woman and cannot sleep is not someone who is emotionally abused. More like emtionally imbalance. Just PCC and go back to sleep lah.

Its a wonder sometimes the kind of crap that can come out from some people's mouth.

Ignore what these PAS people say in Msia ... they are MCP to the extreme ... no disco, no theatre etc .... they got no concrete proposal for Malaysia and are only able to persuade the 'simple' country folks esp those in East Coast Pen. Msia. In their own country they will act pious to the hilt, but once outside their horns all come out .. am sure bros know about certain Middle Eastern countries people who drink, havoc like hell when in Spore.

To me, a pretty lady who dress sexy is most welcomed. :)

It's the other way round whereby a pretty lady but covers herself up thats making me feel uncomfortable.

Its sad when someone of his stature can come out with things like that!! Some of us might say that he has a right to voice his opinions but certainly not like that and from a community leader as well!!
