e.g. If PAP has 45 seats and WP 44 seats in Parliament, the Bill to increase GST by PAP will still be passed by one vote. 45 PAP votes vs 44 WP votes.


The 1/3 rule only applies to changes to Constitution but not to passing of Bills.

e.g. If PAP has 45 seats and WP 44 seats in Parliament, the Amendment by PAP to do away with Elected Presidency will not be passed. 45 PAP votes vs 44 WP votes is more than 1/3 votes of Parliament.

Thus a strong Opposition close to becoming the new Government will have no impact on Political stability.

Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is the highest annual salary earner among country leaders, surpassing his peers by a huge margin.

Earlier this month Russian president Vladimir Putin announced that he and almost everyone who works for him will take a 10% pay cut because of mounting economic sanctions imposed on his country.
