Thank you very much.
To look good, it has to be a multi-prong approach:
1) The Hair - Get a hair cut and style it. Google for men's hairstyles for ideas. Then practice till you're happy with the look.
2) The face - if it's oily, you have to pay more attention. Wash it twice a day to keep it clean. You may want to consider facial if you have blemishes/acne, etc
3) The body - Get into a fitness routine. There are plenty on youtube. Find something suitable for your level of fitness to begin with. If you're overweight, you have serious work to do.
4) The outlook - I'm talking about clothes here. Wear more trendy clothes if you don't want to look like a middle aged uncle. If you don't know what to wear, observe what younger people wear. If you have a tight budget, go for cheaper options like uniqlo, cotton On, H&M, etc. It's not how much you spent but your choice of clothes. Try to discard old clothes because old clothes will make you look older. Remember, clothes maketh a man.
Good luck.

Re: Any starters for men’s grooming?

I think step-by-step lah, do the simple things first.

Greasy Hair? Go for a shorter hair cut and use a stronger shampoo. I go to the Gentleman Barber Shop, good cut for less than $20 but their locations are not the most convenient, I think it is to save on the rental.

Greasy Face? Wash your face more often, twice daily with a gentle soap (morning and night) and just water in between.

To lose a bit of weight, eat less, ask for smaller portion when ordering and drink more water, especially before eating.

Clothes don't need to buy a lot or buy expensive brands, but buy the cutting that suits your body the most or send them for alterations. A well fitted Uniqolo looks better than an ill-fitted Hugo Boss.

After that move to the more difficult things like working out etc.

Basically I have walked more than 10000 steps per day for the past 2 months. Some days I get more than 20000 steps.

I work out with light weights very occasionally (squats, presses, deadlifts). I don't a need gym. However I have access to some weights.

I switched to a mostly plant-based diet. I don't miss meat. I don't feel hungry.

Suggestions on which aspects to start. I suggest work on your fitness first. Find an activity which you like and which you can do everyday. Start small but be consistent.
I wish I can be as disciplined as you bro!

Re: Any starters for men’s grooming?

If you have some pounds around the waist. Maybe it should be the time for you to lose it through cardio. Jogging, Cycling, Swimming etc. Do some pullups and triceps push down with the parallel bar @ the fitness corner.

Trick is start small but be consistent with it. Most people cannot stick to exercise program because they made too drastic of a change.

Next is your diet. Cut down on refined carbohydrates and sugar. These are the primary cause of weight gain. Drink more water and tea, sleep before midnight or least have sufficient sleep.

Be patient coz it will take least 3-6 months to see results, good luck!

Well said bro, a lot of people cannot last long because the change was too drastic, and the results are invisible until a couple of months later.

That's why I suggested to TS, just do the simple things first i.e., make simple changes in your routine, get a shorter hair cut, makes you look neater, or simply wash your face more often.

I remember my colleague, Malaysian uncle once comment how greasy my face was after our lunch , and he was my technician. First thing back to office, I went to the pantry and wash my face with water before our meeting. The supplier was a pretty lady

I maintained this simple habit since, my lady colleagues always commented that I look clean and refreshed even though I have been out of the office.

Another point is don't need to buy expensive clothes, my colleague spend $100-200 a polo tee I cheapskate uncle, spend $10-15. The only difference is he wears his for 3-4 years or longer. Uncle here will not hesitate to buy another within a year if the clothes fade or go out of shape.

Re: Any starters for men’s grooming?

For less than $100 a month:

1. Keep a classic and neat hairstyle. Don't go for funky hairstyles for your age, makes you look even less classy.

2. Unless you have a face that is naturally good-looking with facial hair, suggest to trim all facial hair as soon as they are visible.

3. Trim your eyebrow's excess hair (basically determine your eyebrow's main shape, then trim away the excess little hair at the sides). This will give you a sharper look and instantly make you look more energetic.

4. Trim your NOSE HAIR! VERY IMPORTANT! It's super disgusting for women to be able to see your nose hair hanging out.

5. Have good oral hygiene! Also very important! Brush, gargle, floss, mint, do whatever it takes to make your mouth doesn't smell like garbage can.

6. Get a facial care set that is cheap and has good review. Normally it will have cleanser, toner and hydration. Use it regularly and you might even look 10 years younger. Your face will look more radiant and not like "black" and "dull".

7. Smile more! It's free and it works great to make you look more confident and instantly lifts up the mood of everyone around you. Confidence attracts!

8. Invest in a good cologne. Look for good reviews and buy one within your budget. Women can't resist men that smell good, similar to how men really love women that smell good. It also gives the impression that you are a man that takes good care of yourself, which is +1.

9. Drink enough water regularly, and get at least 7 hours of sleep every day. They do wonders to your age, but the lack of it will make you age faster than you are.

10. If you have an out of shape body, move your ass and start working out. Doesn't matter what work out, as long as you sweat it, pump your heart and blood. How to know how much work out is enough? Do until you feel sore. Your resistance will increase as your body gets adjusted to your training, so as your work out.

11. Learn manners, etiquettes and postures. How to eat, talk, walk, sit like a graceful gentleman. Why? Speech only makes up 10% of our daily communication. The rest 90% is non-verbal communication, the sign that our body signals to others. You'll be amazed how much people judge us without talking to us.

12. Redesign your wardrobe. Donate away all t-shirts with sponsor logos (usually free t-shirts have them). A rule of thumb to play it safe, is to only wear PLAIN, SINGLE colour tops. Best if you can get them without obvious logo. Even with expensive ones, you want the logo to be subtle to stay classy.

Learn how to dress, it's not rocket science. Study the color match. Maximum of 3 colors on your body. Do not wear more than 1 loud design at any time (either it's your top, bottom or shoes). Google is your friend, don't waste free knowledge that turns you from lousy ah pek to a classy gentleman.
