Gram positive cocci, treated with doxycycline

I went for a check up and my urethral smear came back with a gram positive cocci result and pus cells. Treated with doxycycline and subsequent smear was clear with no organism seen and no pus cells. Now, I'm just curious what bacteria was it? Chlamydia, ureaplasma and mycoplasma are gram negative, I read that examples of gram positive bacteria are streptococcus and stphylcoccus(?). Can these bacteria infect the urethra? How is it transmitted? Oral? I don't think it's trichomoniasis since it looks like the doxycycline killed the infection.

Any thoughts?

Re: Gram positive cocci, treated with doxycycline

streptococcus infection is the cause for strep throat/sore throat problems..and it can indeed infect the uretha via oral sex..

besides chlamydia, gonorrhoea can also be diagnosed by a urethral swab

Re: Gram positive cocci, treated with doxycycline

Urine test came back negative for chlamydia and gonorrhea. I am just perplexed by the gram positive smear since most common STIs are gram negative. Streptococcus is a possibility but I can't seem to find anything concrete about strep infecting urethra. And shouldn't your body be able to kill the strep infection like a sore throat? Only symptom I had was a mild ache in my balls.

Well apparently the throat ones are also slowly gaining resistance, and even after throat symptoms clear it could cause complications in other parts of the body

And we don't know if yours was definitely strep. If I had to make an educated guess, both the respiratory and urinary tracts are not part of the bloodstream so not really part of the immune system's jobscope heh.

Anyway moral of the story: don't go cave exploring without a helmet on, safe bonking bros.

Does sound logical too to me as well so maybe that could actually be the answer that TS is looking for

Gram positive cocci treated with doxycycline

I feel there is enough negativity in the world. Its uplifting to hear about positive experiences especially if you are unwell.I have had very positive experiences with my Doctor and specialists. They have made mistakes, but I have to think about the positive not those mistakes.

I think body can fight off the resistance but no guarantee. That is why antibiotics is a break through. Before that, ppl drop like flies to bacteria
