Re: What do you want for retirement?

The only issue with Chiang Mai is the regular slash & burn season in Q1 of the year where the air quality is very bad.

I have not thought of Chaing Rai, but will check it out when I have time to travel out again.

Alternatively, am also considering Taiwan.

Re: What do you want for retirement?

Ultimately freedom is the goal. Financial freedom is when one no longer have any liability.

Not answering to any bosses or customers is also a worthy goal to achieve.

If you can generate sufficient income without lifting a finger, you should consider retiring.

And then look for a hobby or passion to fill your time (not just fucking FL all the time )

I can think of things like do those dancing classes (to pick up MILF), for a start

I'm mid 3Xs, married w no kids. Got lucky with some investments and don't think I need to work ever again.

For the past 2 years I have been feeling the same as you - lost and dunno what to do. Every few days go out play new girl until it feels dam hollow inside.

Right now i try to pick up new hobby (exercise) and catch up w old friends. Also start to talk about having kids w wife. Maybe having a kid will help to anchor me down.

I like to apologise to other bros that I'm not doing a humble flex but the funny thing was when Covid struck, I almost went bankrupt.

So, those 2 years was super tough for me. Almost no sleep every night just working all the way, including driving Grab to reach a safety level.

But to my amazement, I cleared all my debts early this year, and suddenly feel like want to just rest a bit but the problem is once rest, then hard to find back a job.

So, ya either side got it's own problems.

Feeling a bit lost and sianzzz... Or just burnt out.

Re: What do you want for retirement?

Just share a thought, was thinking of renting our my whole 4 room hdb, earn rental and backpacking around the world with my wife, after we have some saving and settle the loans, we don't have kids.

Since you are having a good relationship with your wife and financially stable, why not?

At least you can have fun watching a mini-you growing up, and wonder "Will he grow up like me or be better than me?"

That is one of the smartest thing to do. Romantic and definitely eye opening. While you are still young and fit, please get that done.

Sold a bigger condo, bought a smaller condo. Got some spare change in the bank. Not really retire but just can take a break.

But the thought of not working and not earning is also not what I want.

Actually I also don't know what I want.

Yea, really wonder if the kid can change me for the better and fill my life with some purpose.

I hope my mini me don't get my lousy traits and can become a more useful/better person than me.

Re: What do you want for retirement?

Go do some travelling, do some volunteer work, spend time talking to friends who already retired.

Your "calling" after you retired may triggered after this.

I am almost in the same boat as you. Been traveling almost every month since February.

Met some of my retired friends last week and see how they spend their time. Everyone tells me that they continue to remain active.

Even with the money to travel every month, do you feel empty after retirement?

I've tried that it's great for a couple of years but after the initial euphoria of having zero work commitments it gets rather boring.

There are only so many sunrises and sunsets to appreciate before the novelty wears off.

Humans need challenges in order to be happy.
